It’s fall of 2024. I’ve got a bunch of special events and travel coming up and my closet is struggling. My day-to-day uniform largely consists of Vuori sweats and Athleta tops that make sense for someone that works (and works out) from home.
Aside from several pairs of high-waisted jeans and blouses that could work for a night out if I put some extra effort into whatever my hair and face is doing, my wardrobe isn’t as versatile as I want it to be. For example, colder weather has always been difficult to dress for because I grew up in a tropical climate and decades later, I still refuse to invest properly in clothing that will keep me warm when temps drop below 60 degrees.
When you live in San Diego, anything below 60 immediately prompts Ugg boots, puffer vests, and beanies.
Experimenting With Nuuly Clothing Rental

So, I took a friend up on her Nuuly referral code ahead of a bunch of work events and travel plans. My goal was to have options for colder weather and switch up my looks without dropping hundreds of dollars on outfits I’d likely only wear a couple of times.
The brands available to rent on Nuuly are what you’d find at Anthropologie, Free People, and Urban Outfitters. Styles range from athleisure to going-out options, pieces for seasonal travel (warm- and cold-weather locales, wedding season), and maternity wear.
Since I’ve started renting with Nuuly, I’ve been having fun wearing different items for date night to a local wine bar, an all-inclusive experience in Mexico, to Thanksgiving in Dallas and a long winter weekend in San Francisco.

How Nuuly Works
The monthly clothing rental subscription service gives members access to six pieces a month, with an option to rent additional pieces for a separate fee.
Once your monthly box arrives, you can wear rented pieces as many times as you like until your next billing cycle, which then unlocks the next month’s rental. You can choose to purchase any or all pieces at a discount displayed in the Nuuly app, and send the rest or all of the pieces back.
When you’re ready to send your box back, slap the pre-paid shipping label on it and drop it off at your nearest UPS or Urban Outfitters store.
There is an option to pause your subscription at no cost, and Nuuly typically sends a reminder when your pause is about to expire and when billing will resume.

Why Nuuly Works for Me:
Is Nuuly worth it? It depends on what your goals are, and what you value. Here’s why it works for me:
- Allows me to experiment with my style without the investment of ownership
- Access to clothing that would usually be out of my ownership price range
- It’s great for seasonal and one-off occasions like winter jackets or vacation dresses… no dry-cleaning needed. Just throw everything back in the bag and send it back
