Chelsea Wine Bar, El Lago, TX

I spent a late October afternoon gliding over Taylor Lake, just outside of Houston. Settling into a soothing rhythm of pulling my paddle through the water, knees slightly-bent, the pads of my feet gripping the wide board, I thanked my regular Pilates practice for keeping me standing upright. Steady strokes on each side offered a brief focal point for a scattered state of mind. Stillness found repetitive movement.

Afterward, we perched rooftop at Chelsea Wine Bar nearby. The rosé, paired with the gorgeous sunset pictured here helped to unwind as well.

Not pictured: The bevy of cakes that flooded our table once the sun went down. Hummingbird cake, Chocolate cake, White Chocolate Raspberry and Carrot. It was then that mind and body synced up; with crumbs on our plates and the sun completely out of site, we literally could not move.

Berlin

In this park, a crowd begins to gather. Guys carrying coolers strapped around their necks make easy change for a choice of brews. I read about this place in a side bar of Norwegian Air’s in-flight magazine, en route from Lisbon. The selling point: outdoor karaoke.

This park, Maueurpark, where pieces of the Berlin wall serve as acoustics for the open-air amphitheater that plays host to weekend sessions with no shortage of willing participants belting out the best of Celine Dion and more. It’s built into the grassy hill and offers a nice vantage point for people watching.

If you’ve had enough, one could get lost in the adjacent flea market. It’s full of vintage finds, graphic printed tees from local brick and mortars, accessories, and SNACKS.

La Latina, Madrid

La Latina, Madrid

Captured during the early part of my week-long visit to Madrid. This afternoon was also my first attempt at heading out on a day trip, either to Toledo or Segovia per the recommendations I received from some new friends. Mañana, I’d suggest to myself.

As it would turn out, I’d never make it out of Madrid, and that was ok.

The tree-lined streets with people who filled up the outdoor seating, enjoying their meal and a tinto de verano (like a play on sangria), or the gentle breeze that made its way through Retiro park while I splayed out on my back to read a book was enough and everything for me.

Pictured above is a snap from La Latina, a popular neighborhood for restaurants and bars and nightlife. And for playing hooky from day trips to neighboring cities.
