Bilbao on the brink of summer

In case you missed it, The Curious Passport has been writing away for other corners of the internets. Travel related things, per usual, like this recent piece for Wanderful:

Bilbao is small, its people are friendly and it’s entirely walkable. For these reasons, this Basque region locale is a perfect primer for more bustling locations like Madrid, or Barcelona. Check it out, let me know what you think if you feel so inclined.

Over on Elite Daily, I offer a few tips for making the most of your hostel stay:

And for real-time travel updates, find me on Instagram. In the coming weeks, I’m heading to Sayulita for some surf and sun, and then onto the East Coast to visit friends and family before rooting back down in San Diego for the holidays…or at least that is the plan!

Berlin

In this park, a crowd begins to gather. Guys carrying coolers strapped around their necks make easy change for a choice of brews. I read about this place in a side bar of Norwegian Air’s in-flight magazine, en route from Lisbon. The selling point: outdoor karaoke.

This park, Maueurpark, where pieces of the Berlin wall serve as acoustics for the open-air amphitheater that plays host to weekend sessions with no shortage of willing participants belting out the best of Celine Dion and more. It’s built into the grassy hill and offers a nice vantage point for people watching.

If you’ve had enough, one could get lost in the adjacent flea market. It’s full of vintage finds, graphic printed tees from local brick and mortars, accessories, and SNACKS.

Saturated Saturday is a new photo series highlighting some of my favorite images, with enhanced vibrant colors courtesy of the photo editing apps I like at the moment. These include: VSCO, Instagram, A Color Story. Most photos taken with iPhone 6s.

In spite of recent tragedies at home and abroad, widely covered by the media or not, travel is more important than ever. The fear and apprehension that follows after such senseless acts is understandable. However, I hope this does not build a wall within people so high that it blocks the inspiring truths that lie beyond our comfort zones.

The world is big, though there is no room for hate. I plan to share a longer post on this topic next week. In the meantime, trust that there is more good and wonder in this world, like the following roundup of posts on :

Weekend Reads is an almost-weekly series on The Curious Passport and features a round-up of travel news, features and other related links (probably related to food, fitness or the outdoors) I’ve either found around the internet or has been sent my way by friends and family.
